Cloud radar antenna at the Milesovka Observatory for measuring the vertical profile of cloud particles based on the detection of backscattered radio waves.
On 20 March 2018, the MIRA 35c cloud radar from METEK was installed at the Milešovka Observatory at an altitude of 837 m above sea level. Unlike the precipitation radars of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, which detect large precipitation particles and do not detect the presence of clouds at all, this radar measures mainly cloud particles, and when precipitation occurs, there is a strong signal attenuation. The radar also measures only in the vertical direction above the radar with a time step of 2 seconds. The quantities obtained are indicative of the size, type and movement of cloud particles.
