Department of the Ionosphere and Aeronomy investigates the ionosphere, as well as the middle and upper atmosphere. Our primary research areas include:
- Ionospheric physics
- Global changes in the upper atmosphere and ionosphere
- Stratosphere: ozone and dynamics
- Infrasound measurements
- Atmospheric electricity and global electric circuit
The department is actively engaged in developing its own scientific instruments for ground-based observations:
- Multi-point Continuous Doppler Sounding System (CDSS)
- Ionospheric airglow camera
Our department has a rich history of successfully developing instruments for satellite missions and space-based measurements:
- Magion satellites (development of Czechoslovak and Czech microsatellites)
- Digital solar sensors for satellite attitude determination on orbit
- TPMU instrument (Thermal Plasma Measurement Unit) for cold plasma measurements
