  • Research Scientist at IAP from 2001 to 2013
  • Senior Research Scientist at IAP from 2013 to present.

Professional interest:

In the beginning of his carrier, J. Chum was involved in designing electronic subsystems for Czech satellites Magion-4 and Magion-5, digital sun sensor for several satellites and ground based measurements carried out at IAP, e.g., Continuous Doppler sounding of the ionosphere.

Since 2001, J. Chum has been involved in Space plasma physics investigations with a focus on wave propagation in the Earth's magnetosphere and ionosphere. The scientific activity dominates in recent years. Initially, J. Chum investigated propagation and properties of whistler waves and chorus emissions in the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Recently, he has mainly focused on propagation of internal gravity waves and infrasound in the upper atmosphere and ionosphere using the multi-point Continuous Doppler sounding, and on coupling of the ionosphere and upper atmosphere from below and from above. He is also interested in atmospheric electricity and cosmic rays.
